Higher National Diploma in Project Management (HNDPM)

Project Management has evolved over the last three to four decades as an independent profession due to its applicability in various industries, including Education, Aviation, IT and Telecommunications, Building and Construction, Tourism, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Banking, and Finance. Project Management mainly focused on Project Scheduling, task Management, Resource Utilization and technical aspects of the projects in the early 1980’s, and later transformed into a much broader scope. Modern-day Project Management brings out a set of key skills any manager should have, as it provides effective tools and practices for work planning, execution, and control in every part of an organization. Professional organizations like Project Management Institute USA (PMI), International Project Management Association (IPMA) and PRINCE – Projects in Controlled Environment (UK) as well as recent developments with Agile Project Management consortiums have contributed to the advancement of Project Management Profession.

SLIATE Higher National Diploma in Project Management Program has been developed and reviewed by a group of consultants together with the SLIATE team, to ensure world’s best practices are effectively introduced to students.

Program Learning Objectives

Due to the increasing demand in Project Management profession, SLIATE introduced Higher National Diploma in Project Management (HNDPM) with the aim to develop skilled project managers for the future, who can support growth of any organization by applying world’s best practices of project management. HNDPM curriculum was carefully drafted to ensure students are equipped with all the skills and knoweldge they require to manage any type of project competently and with confidence.

This program will also help students to pursue a career in general management, where planning, executing, monitoring and evaluation is part of every day work. Students will also be skilled in Business Communications and Information technology as there is a high weightage placed on
these areas of teaching.

Upon successful completion of the program HND holders will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in project management which is essential for career success in many fields, with the right attitude, mindset and professionalism. Project Management is a specialized skill, and HND in
PM will prepare students to fill the gap in the market by producing qualified and skilled individuals.

As a successful HNDPM holder, the student will be able to

- Start a career in Project Management as a Project Planner/Project Co-ordinator/ or an
Assistant Project Manager and move through Project Management Career path.
- Continue education in Project Management and obtain globally recognized certification
like Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM).
- Join advanced Project Management qualifications/ bachelor’s degree programs in Project
Management is offered by local and foreign universities and institutions.
- Explore opportunities in Management related domains where Project Management is
expected as a key skill.

Entry qualifications 

  • The course aims at school leavers with GCE (A/L) qualifications in Mathematics, Science, Accountancy, Technology, and Arts streams. 
  • Candidate should have simple pass for English and Mathematics in G.C.E(O/L).

Candidates are selected through the order of merit in their GCE (A/L) examination and through an aptitude/ IQ test. 

 Structure of the HNDPM Program

HND in PM is a Full time 2 ½ year program that comprise of 5 semesters, with total of 82 Crerdits.

Program is designed to meet the competency standards required by TVEC/SLQF to place the program at NVQ Level 6/SLQF 4.

After successful completion of 1 st Academic year, students will be able to achieve National Diploma Level (SLQF Level 3)

After successful completion of 2 nd Academic Year with Industrial Training/Internship, students will be eligible to receive Higher National Diploma (SLQF Level 4) Qualification.
